Wednesday

Today is Orange Shirt Day.  We spent some time reflecting on why we are important and creating a special visual journal page.  Here are some of our reflections:

"In the olden days people felt like children didn't matter.  That's why we make sure that they matter now."  Jackson

"We wear an orange shirt to remember the children who were taken away for 300 sleeps."  Brayden

"The children got sent away."  Robbie

"The children weren't made to feel special."  Brielle

"All children matter."  Akbar

Today in grade one:

"We learned about Orange Shirt Day."  Gracie

"We went to the playground during lunch recess."  Elise

"We colored an orange shirt and made a blue background using chalk pastels."  Charlee

"We worked in our Today is Monday booklets."  Aria

"We worked in our treasure books."  Emmitt

"We colored a picture of Terry Fox."  Kaylin

"We drew our self-portraits."  Ms. Lang

Thank you for all of the toonies for Terry!

Tomorrow will be Orange Shirt Day.  Please ask your child to wear an orange shirt.  Orange Shirt Day is held annually on Sept. 30. It is an opportunity for everyone to come together in the spirit of reconciliation. Orange Shirt Day began in 2013 when a residential school survivor named Phyllis Webstad shared how her orange shirt was taken away on her first day.  For further information please click on the following link:

Tomorrow we will be running around the pond for our Terry Fox run.  You are welcome to send in a toonie for Terry.
